Title: “We Ain’t Never Seen
Nothing Like This”
Key Points
Opening Commentary: The
Gospel of Mark continued.
In order to be with Jesus, you had to
be on the move.
Opening Scripture(s):
Mark 1:16-17
- Jesus saw Simon and Andrew and
told them to follow Him.
- Our primary responsibility
as believers in Christ is to follow Him.
- When he saw them, they where
fishing. Jesus saw them doing something.
- Jesus called them from
something.
- Once God calls you, He’s
going to make you…. He told them that He would make them fishers of
men.
- He called all of us to be
fishers of men.
Scripture: Mark
1:18-19
- Once they heard Him, they
immediately dropped their nets and followed Jesus.
- When Jesus called them, they
where in the boat with their father and hired servants.
- When you are called,
sometimes you need to leave behind your family, friends, etc. to do,
thus saith the Lord.
Scripture: Mark 1:20-22
- Jesus went to the synagogue and
worshiped on the Sabbath day with his disciples.
- The audience was astonished
because He taught as if He had the authority.
- During that time, Rabbi’s
could go to the synagogue and teach at any time during the Sabbath.
Scripture: Mark 1:23-28
- The man with the unclean spirit
new who Jesus was. He proclaimed Jesus as the Holy One of God.
- Jesus rebuked him and told
him to be quiet and come out of Him.
- The spirit came out of the
man. The men in the synagogue where amazed that all Jesus did was speak
to the demon and it came out by His word.
- They wondered what type of
doctrine allows Jesus to speak directly to demons and they obey.
- Those who witnessed, saw Jesus
cast out the demon; the word of His works in the synagogue spread throughout
the city.
Scripture: Mark 1:29-31
- When Jesus healed Simon’s wife,
she was immediately well.
- She began serving Jesus as soon
as she got up. This is evidence of a total and complete healing.
SIDE NOTE: They knew people where
demonized based on their actions.
Scripture: Mark 1:32-35
- Jesus heals the sick, we don’t.
Although, through us He heals the sick.
- He was healing the sick all day
and night.
- Scripture:
Mark 1:36-38
- Jesus got up early in the
morning and went to a quiet place to pray.
- If Jesus needed to pray, we need
to pray.
- After Jesus prayed, he wasn’t
concerned that people were looking for Him. His instructions in prayer were
to go to the next town and preach.
Scripture:
Mark 1:39-44
- The leaper knew that Jesus was a
healer and recognized that it was by His will that healing would come for
him.
- You have to know that Jesus
is a healer.
- Jesus moved with compassion on
him and healed him by touching him and telling him that I am willing, be
cleansed…
- When Jesus touched him he was
already cleansed because he wouldn’t have touched him.
- Jesus told him to have the
priest declare him clean.
- He also told him to do what
Moses commanded. This is an indication that Jesus didn’t tell us to stop
following the Torah (Older Testament)
Scripture:
Mark 1:45
- When the people found out that
Jesus healed the leaper, people came from everywhere. So much so that he
couldn’t enter the city where went.
- The reason why He told the
leaper not to tell anyone about what happened was because He was not yet
ready for his full identity to be revealed.
Scripture:
Mark 2:1-12
- As soon as the people found that
Jesus was in Capernaum, people gathered where he was.
- Jesus saw the faith and
determination of the men carrying the paralytic; He moved and forgave
the sins of the paralytic.
- Believing in the healer will
bring you healing.
- Your sins need to be forgiven.
- What good is it to be healed
and whole and still go to hell?
- They were all amazed and said
that they never saw anything like this.
